Shaheen Shah Afridi’s T20I captaincy is at risk as PCB is considering to reappoint Babar Azam as a captain of Pakistan Cricket team for T20 world cup 2024. Initially, Mohammad Rizwan was top contender, however the authorities have positioned Babar Azam more suitable for the role.
After the 2023 World Cup, Babar Azam was removed from his white-ball captaincy, he also resigned from the red-ball leadership, which appoints Shan Masood as the Test captain.
Pakistan’s performance suffered under Shaheen’s captaincy, including losses in Australia and New Zealand.
Since then, there has been a change in PCB leadership, Mohsin Naqvi appointed as a chairman after succeeding Zaka Ashraf. Naqvi hinted possibility of a forthcoming change in captaincy during a press conference.
According to the sources Babar Azam is unhappy with the management as he was mistreated previously and is hesitant to take on the role again. He is looking for assurance on certain queries and will only agree to return as captain if his concerns are addressed.
