Government Establishes National Cybercrime Investigation Agency To Address Cybercrime

The Federal Government has created National Cybercrime Investigation Agency to deal with cybercrime on a large scale. It will separately investigate from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar addressed the media and said;

“Time has come to end the harassment, including online,” he had said, calling for a specific authority to address the issue of online harassment as at present there is no law to protect the digital rights of consumers. As per decision all the assets, liabilities, rights, obligations, privileges, investigations, will be transfer from FIA to NCCIA.

The NCCIA is consists of Director General, Additional Directors General, Directors, Additional Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors and other officers.

The Director General will be appointed by the federal government for the span of two years and will be a grade 21 or 22 officer. The Director General will have a power comparable to  Inspector General of Police.
